It seems the Creationists want to open yet another school in order to indoctrinate children.
However, disturbingly this one is not intended to be built in Newark, NJ, USA but in Newark, NG, UK. Yes folks, this bronze age fairy tale is coming to a town near us.
The proposal for the secondary school that is hoped will accommodate 625 pupils is being led by Pastor Gareth Morgan. He has stated that creationism will be taught across the curriculum as he believes the Bible is an accurate depiction of God's word. He went on to say further, "It will not be taught exclusively in the sciences, for example. At the same time, evolution will be taught as a theory."
This is the old 'play on words' ploy that creationists use in which they deliberately fail to acknowledge the scientific use of the word 'theory' meaning fact and instead use the everyday usage, a guess. Sorry Pastor but evolution is backed up by mountains of evidence.
This evidence, together with how it has and is being misunderstood and abused by the religious will be a common theme on the blog.
And, why we are on the subject, its Darwin's birthday on Saturday so I'll have to get a cake in.
A well-known scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: "What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise." The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, "What is the tortoise standing on?" "You're very clever, young man, very clever", said the old lady. "But it's turtles all the way down!" Stephen Hawking 'A Brief History of Time'

The sentence, 'Yes folks, this bronze age fairy tale is coming to a town near us.' is a hyperlink. I'll put it in a different colour next time.
